New Digital Challenge Group Forming!

Over on the Creative Soul ning group, I have started a new group for a different type of creative digital artwork. Have you ever read a story and could visualize art that would go with the descriptive words you were reading? I recently read "The Hunger Games" and I found myself marking the "Quotes" or passages in the book for future reference. I'm sure I can blame a friend of mine, Tanya for starting the seed of inspiration growing in the back of my mind and so when the opportunity showed itself, I quickly became excited about the prospects. Then, recently over at DigitalWhisper Deviantart group, Kimmie posed a challenge based on song lyrics by Sting, this month. (This is the art I created from her prompt). Finally, everything meshed and I totally enjoyed the creative aspects of this challenge and thought it would be a wonderful way to get others inspired as well. Each week, a new "Quote" or passage from whatever book we have chosen to read, will be added to the groups discussion and everyone is free to interpret the quote to create their own artwork. Book titles will be added to the list as we get more members signing up. The first prompt will be posted this Friday, March 18th and it will be from the "Hunger Games"-written by: Suzanne Collins. If you haven't read the book, that's OK, the quote will be all the prompt you need, but this is an interesting book. Set in the future with limited resources, mankind will do whatever it takes to feed their families. (Even send their young into a fight to the death, so they possible could win, food to survive another year.)

It's been awhile since I've created any new kits and I decided it would do me good to be digitally creative today, so here you go! Two new kits, both CU4CU-which means these kits are for commercial use, no credit required, but always appreciated. This first kit has 8 grey-scale textured papers that were a mixture of textures, blended together from photos or other digital elements. They can be recolored as many times as you wish, to create your own papers. Use your own colors and build some wonderful digital collages starting with these awesome textures. This kit also includes 8 pre-made papers for you to get started creating your digital layouts. These are all full size-meaning they are 12" x 12" a standard scrap-booking size. You can crop these to any size you need!

We've been keeping busy, playing with a variety of themes while we wait for the final few, new students to join us. This is a montage I did with the theme: "All That Jazz". It started out as a cover from a vintage sheet music pamphlet that I altered and re-painted to make the colors more intense.
The workshops are written for beginners, but teach a variety of things for everyone. Workshop #1 is blending modes and next month Workshop #2 is learning about distressing techniques and how to create tools such as: overlays, masks and brushes to achieve the distressed-illusion of age. "Serenity at the Beach" is the theme we have been playing around with for the past week-just having some fun while we wait for the remaining few people to sign up for the workshop. This layout combined a texture of some beautiful turquoise peeling paint, with a new layer of baby blue, blended with a fabulous vacation photo of a sandcastle and pavilion. The lettering is from a vintage catalog of boys dress suits, but after changing all the wording around, it's now a poster advertising boys swimming suits, priced below regular London prices. :-D

I have always admired the vintage-faded-weathered Coke products of days gone by, but especially the hand-painted signs that you can still find occasionally in the small towns of our great country. With that in mind-I created these free printable bookmarks for you to download!
First I created the acrylic washed backgrounds-(see my art studio blog-link is in the sidebar for a tutorial about painting your own fabulous backgrounds!) Then I created a Book-Mark template in my digital software-using this scanned background as an overlay and added the awesome Coke advertisement, which is the perfect color for this background. If you print these out on 110lb. cardstock-cut them out, use a glue stick to glue them back to back-punch a hole at the top and add some ribbon-you will have 3 book-marks to share with your friends. Or-you can simply cut them out-punch a hole at the top-add ribbon and write a message to your friend on the back! Enjoy! :-D Cindy

Did you ever have animal flash cards when you were growing up? I can remember having hours of fun moving these cards around to create some new funky looking animals and laughing until I cried at all the funny looking new species I created.
These vintage flash cards have been fabulously digitized into new printable flash cards, for yourself or your children or grandkids! They will love 'em!
All you need is the kit- 110 lb. cardstock- your digital software and a printer. Cut them out and start playing! You could also laminate them with some inexpensive clear contact paper for more durability!

Hybrid Digital Jewelry-Tutorial

Vintage Poker Chip Jewelry-Altered Art Embellishment

These lightweight vintage poker chips are the perfect base
to create some wonderful jewelry pendants. With minimal
supplies you can have a vast collection of mix and match
jewelry pendants.

You will need just a few things:
1. 2" x 2" digitally created images-
a variety arranged on 8.5 x 11 printable-background for quick printing
2. Print your printable sheet
3. Place a large 1 1/2" round page bubble
over the image of your choice. (Page bubbles can be found at your
local JoAnn's Scrapbooking section-there are a variety of sizes and shapes.)
4. Carefully cut around the page bubble
5. Using Diamond Glaze or liquid lacquer-glue the page bubble covered
image to the vintage poker chip and set aside to dry.
6. Using the same Diamond Glaze or liquid lacquer-glue on a pendant bail
to the backside of the poker chip and set aside to dry.

That's it! Once dry, the pendants are ready to wear. Use ribbon, suede lacing,
or ball chain as the necklace and you have a beautiful pendant. You can create
digital art to wear for every holiday, special occasion, give as gifts or to sell.

This poker chip pendants can also be used for a variety of altered art-simply glue
them to whatever surface you are using or add the bail and hang these in art
assemblages-like theaters or shadowboxes. A great way to add depth and interest
to your art projects!

Just wanted to tell everyone who enjoys creating mixed media hybrid art projects that I will be doing a year long art journey of mixed media projects on my art studio blog this year. The idea came about one day while I was trying to organize my library and had stacks and stacks of magazines-some dating back to the beginning of my art career-the early 70's! There is a treasure trove of interesting projects in this room and I decided to revisit some of the most amazing magazines to find some art projects that catch my eye. Once the projects are finished and the magazine has been fully explored, I will host a magazine swap on my Yahoo group-The Latest Trends in Mixed Media Art. If you are not a member of said group, you may want to join. We host a variety of projects every month, swaps, workshops, etc. You might also like to become a follower of my art studio blog-links are in the sidebar. New Background Doesn't Fit-Oh No!

Here is my newest background! LOL! I spent hours creating it, only to have it not fit. It's the same size as the one that is currently posted-wonder what I did wrong?? Oh well, I have decided to use this background I created as a jumping off point to create some new and wonderful background papers for yet another new kit! A perfect solution to a perplexing problem. :-D

This is a fabulous block style alphabet that fits perfectly with the main mixed media digital kit. They are 3" sq. re-sizable in png format and can be re-colored to fit your needs.

These 6 block cut digi-stamps are the first set to be released with the main kit. Instructions for using digi-stamps is included in the package. This is such a fun kit and I had fun doing these collages. The silhouette reminded me of the witch in Hansel & Gretel, so I made a theater playbill but this would be wonderful as a Halloween greeting card or even an invitation to a spooktacular party!
